A Renew Way of Thinking™

Hematite believes in protecting the environment for present and future generations. We're a leader in environmental responsibility. Our Environmental Management System ensures we:

  • Keep up-to-date with changing environmental laws and regulations, and complying with them
  • Educate our employees about preventing pollution
  • Set, review and revise measurable environmental objectives and targets as necessary
  • Effectively communicate new objectives and targets to our employees
  • Meet the expectations of the ISO 14001 standard

We make our environmental policy known to everyone who works for and with Hematite.

Our green commitment began early. Hematite was one of the first companies to be registered to ISO 14001, occurring on December 20, 2001 (EMS #68077).

The Benefits of Reform™

One of the most valuable benefits to our customers is Hematite's Reform™ process, which helps them reduce costs and reduce their ecological footprint.

As illustrated, Hematite closes the loop to reduce impact on the planet. Scrap from customers is run through a series of complex separation stages that results in useable materials for manufacturing. Our recycling plant sends the renewed materials to one of our plants to be molded or formed back into a new, recycled and recyclable high-quality product. These products are highly engineered to help customers manage a variety of environmental impacts including acoustics, airflow and water deflection.

Pavaco Facility

Hematite's Pavaco facility in Brantford, Ontario is where the loop begins.

The sophisticated Pavaco facility is responsible for Hematite’s closed-loop Reform™ process. Since Reform™ began, Pavaco has removed over 20 million pounds of trim scrap waste annually that was destined for landfill sites in North America. Pavaco has reduced the customer’s reliance on virgin materials, reducing their costs and carbon footprint.

What we do: We recycle auto trim scrap to recover filled EVA from laminated or attached secondary materials (eg. foam, carpet, shoddy, webbing, film, fleece). Then we combine materials recovered from Hematite scrap with various other sources into other homogenous regrind formulations. Finally, we take the various types of regrind to blend together with other specific recycled additives to create formulations for extrudable and injection-formable materials.

How we do it: The Pavaco facility has engineered a unique process. Scrap is initially tested for physical properties, then shredded to liberate secondary materials. Further processing occurs through a series of separation systems (using grinding and air) for extensive removal of non-EVA components. EVA regrind streams are then combined together in a blending process, along with other supporting additives, to achieve a specific set of physical properties. Blends are then pre-tested to ensure quality specifications are met before final shipping.
